WFF Issues Show Cause Notice to Vinesh Phogat over Indiscipline and Anti-Doping

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has issued a show-cause notice to wrestler Vinesh Phogat, accusing her of indiscipline and violating anti-doping rules. In the 15-page notice, the WFI stated that Vinesh is ineligible to compete in domestic events until June 26 of this year.

This decision is based on her failure to complete the mandatory six-month notice period required for athletes returning from retirement under United World Wrestling (UWW) Anti-Doping Rules.

The WFF sought her explanation regarding four major charges, including her disqualification from the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Among the allegations against her are the failure to make weight for the Paris Olympics, which led to disqualification under the WFI constitution, violations of anti-doping rules due to failures in providing whereabouts information, and participation in categories of 50 kg and 53 kg during the selection trials held on March 11, 2024, at NIS Patiala, which is a violation of United World Wrestling (UWW) competition rules.

The WFF also referenced a missed doping test recorded on December 18, 2025, as notified by the International Testing Agency. The show-cause notice requested her explanation within 14 days, starting from May 9, 2026, regarding why no disciplinary action had been taken against her.
