The Government of India has recently implemented a regulation limiting gold imports to 100 kilograms under the Advance Authorization Scheme.

This initiative is designed to facilitate jewelry exporters by allowing them to import essential raw materials without incurring import duties.

By streamlining access to gold, the government aims to strengthen the jewelry sector, fostering growth and enhancing India's position in the competitive global marketplace.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has recently implemented a series of updated regulations for exporters who wish to import gold duty-free. These new guidelines are designed to tighten oversight and promote responsible trading practices. For those applying for the first time, a physical inspection of their operations will now be mandatory, ensuring that all applicants adhere to strict standards.

Furthermore, existing exporters must demonstrate that they have fulfilled at least 50% of their export obligations before they can be granted further authorization to import gold.

These significant changes mark a shift from the previous policy, which allowed unlimited imports under the scheme, and aim to ensure greater accountability and integrity in the gold import process.
